Time to Reduce Bike Theft

Bike thefts in six major Canadian cities increased 31 per cent between 2014 and 2015. Rates are rising because thieves can snatch bikes in a relatively short amount of time, easily ride them away and quickly sell them off to unsuspecting third parties.
Vancouver saw 513 reported bike thefts per 100,000 residents last year, making it the city with the highest rate of thefts per capita, while Montreal has the lowest, at just 111 bike thefts per capita.
Thefts generally peak in August and September, and bikes are returned to their rightful owners less than 13 per cent of the time as identification is hard to determine. So make sure you have etched your driver’s licence or some other identifying serial number on your bike to assist in the return of it if recovered. And invest in a really good lock.
