Personal property losses caused by overland flooding are typically not covered by insurance. The heavy rainfalls and subsequent overland flooding events on November 2-3, 2014 in North and West Vancouver have resulted in the events being declared eligible for assistance by Emergency Management BC.
Homeowners and residents who suffer property damage by flood or other uninsurable events and live in areas that the government has declared eligible for Disaster Financial Assistance may apply for recovery through the BC Disaster
Financial Assistance Program. To apply for assistance, they’ll need to complete the DFA Application form below and submit it along with a letter from their insurer confirming no coverage under their habitational policy to www.pep.bc.ca. To issue the insurer letter they will need to open a claim, determine no coverage is available, and craft supporting documentation for their use in the application process.
